American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a Telemetry Float Pool position at an acute care hospital in Chandler, AZ, requiring the ability to titrate cardiac drips and a passing score on a pre-offer dysrhythmia exam.

Details

  • Acute care hospital setting with float pool coverage across multiple telemetry and med-surg units
  • Float units include CV Telemetry, Neuro Telemetry, and Medical-Surgical floors; floating may also occur to ICU, Cath Lab holding, ER, observation floor, and other holding areas
  • Floating between two campuses approximately 9 miles apart is possible; nurses are notified of campus and unit assignment 1.5 hours prior to shift start
  • Travelers float to the observation floor first, then to other units as needed; mid-shift unit changes can occur
  • Patient populations include post-cath lab, post-vascular procedures, CABG patients, neuro/post-surgical, CVAs post-TPA, general telemetry, ortho/surgical/oncology, and general med-surg
  • Patient ratios are 1:3–4 on telemetry units and 1:4 on med-surg units
  • Cardiac drip titration required (Amiodarone, Cardene, Nitro, Heparin, Dobutamine); centralized telemetry monitoring with RN EKG interpretation required on tele units
  • Charting system: Cerner
  • 12-hour night shifts (7p–7a)
  • 4 weekend shifts (Saturday/Sunday) per scheduling period required
  • Travelers float first among all float pool nurses

Requirements

  • Active AZ RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand; pending licenses not accepted
  • Active certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS (pending certifications not accepted)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
  • Must be able to interpret EKGs and titrate cardiac drips
  • Permanent residence must be at least 50 miles from the facility to qualify for travel rates; driver's license is used to verify permanent address
  • 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
  • Copy of driver's license required for consideration
  • Must pass the Relias Dysrhythmia exam (basic or advanced) prior to offer confirmation; a maximum of 2 attempts are allowed

Additional Information

  • Must pass a pass/fail Simulation Lab skills assessment on the first day of orientation covering sterile technique for Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes
  • Candidates who fail the dysrhythmia exam on both attempts or fail the Sim Lab assessment will be ineligible for this health system's AZ and Sacramento, CA region facilities for 6 months
  • Candidates who have been directly employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity facility within the past year are not eligible; candidates employed PRN through outside staffing firms will be considered
  • Must work 2 of 3 major holidays during the assignment
  • Navy scrubs required across all units
  • PCTs and charge nurses (without patient assignments) are present on all units; RT and pharmacy are available 24/7
  • Floor-specific orientation is provided upon assignment to each unit (1–2 days/shifts depending on the unit)
  • No pediatric patients on telemetry units (patients must be 15 years or older)
