Job Title: CV Invasive Specialist Profession: Invasive Specialist Specialty: Cardiology Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Two years of Invasive Cardiovascular Technology or Electrophysiology experience License: - Currently registered as a Cardiovascular Invasive Specialist (RCIS) or Registered Cardiovascular Electrophysiology Specialist (RCES). Certifications: - Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers. - ACLS certification. Must-Have: - Two years of Invasive Cardiovascular Technology or Electrophysiology experience. - Demonstrated proficiency in all CVIS I job duties without supervision. - Must be competent in basic coronary intervention. Description: Participates in procedure room preparation and post-procedure turnaround. Makes hemodynamic recordings, calculations, and interpretations. Provides emotional support for patients and their family members. Assists in inventory control. Fosters teamwork and cohesiveness with team members and physicians. Provides patient education and ensures patient comfort. Assesses and documents patient condition. Informs the physician of deviations from normal criteria throughout the procedure. Understands and applies principles of x-ray generation and safety. Understands and demonstrates the correct operation of imaging equipment. Provides procedural assistance as a circulating tech, scrub tech, or monitoring tech, according to policies and procedures. May mix and administer some medications under the direction and supervision of the physician. Performs point of care testing and quality assurance. May apply closure device, suture the sheath in place, or remove the sheath and apply pressure to obtain hemostasis at the end of the procedure. Provides thorough and accurate documentation of each procedure and associated events. Develops skills in operating, calibrating, and troubleshooting all equipment in the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory. Maintains a complete knowledge of cardiopulmonary pathophysiology, pharmacology, anatomic anomalies, and treatment options. Has a thorough knowledge of invasive diagnostic and interventional supplies, appropriate indications and applications, and proper use and deployment techniques. Orients new staff. Teaches, coaches, and mentors staff and provides direct supervision. Provides staff education in Skills Day Workshops. Prepares for patient status changes related to procedural events. Takes immediate and appropriate action in response when status changes occur. Maintains at least 20 hours of continuing medical education credits per year. Demonstrated expertise in performing complex diagnostic and advanced interventional procedures or demonstrated understanding.
