Job Title: Endoscopy Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Endoscopy Duration: 12 months Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum two years of health care exposure in a similar clinic setting, preferred. License: BLS Certifications: N/A Must-Have: - Experience in advanced procedures such as EBUS, bronchoscopy, standard EUS, and ERCPs. - Familiarity with endoscopy equipment or scope/instrument reprocessing, preferred. Description: Under direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, performs a variety of nursing care functions within all aspects of Endoscopy. Implements appropriate actions to support and comfort the patient’s needs. Observes the patient and communicates pertinent data to the Registered Nurse (RN). Performs technical patient care services under supervision of nursing leadership and the RN. Assists physicians and RN with endoscopic procedures. Assists with pre-, intra-, and post-endoscopic care of the patient, including monitoring vital signs as necessary and as directed by the RN. Makes beds, cleans rooms, and serves as a runner for equipment during procedures and for the transport of patients as necessary. Properly positions patients pre- and intra-procedure. Selects the correct endoscope and performs quality control checks pre-procedure, including air, water, and white balancing. Enters patient and procedure information into endoscopy report writing software pre-procedure and intra-procedure as necessary. Handles and manages procedure accessory equipment, including endoscopic forceps, polyp snares, endoscopic clips, retrieval nets/graspers, heater probes, and specimen collection containers. Supports airway via head positioning and performs oropharyngeal suctioning. Provides abdominal pressure as guided by the provider. Collects specimens and labels specimens with accuracy. Performs immediate post-procedure endoscope pre-cleaning. Knows how to set up for, assemble, and disassemble accessories for numerous technical procedures. Troubleshoots problems with endoscopes and necessary support equipment, including suction, CO2 pumps, and water pumps. Assembles and disassembles endoscopic instruments, accessories, and related equipment. Cleans and processes equipment after procedures, including testing for leaks and other troubleshooting. Performs high-level disinfection of endoscopes and accessories. Assists with other duties or projects as assigned.
