Job Title: Endoscopy Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Endoscopy Duration: 11 months Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Minimum two years of healthcare exposure in a similar clinic setting preferred. License: N/A Certifications: BLS Must-Have: Experience in advanced procedures such as EBUS, bronchoscopy, standard EUS, and ERCPs. On-call availability required for one weekend a month and 24-hour shift coverage. Description: Under direct supervision of the provider and nursing leadership, the Endoscopy Technician performs a variety of nursing care functions within all aspects of endoscopy. The technician will implement appropriate actions as assigned to provide support and comfort to the patients' needs. They will observe the patient and communicate pertinent data to the Registered Nurse (RN). The position entails performing technical patient care services under the supervision of nursing leadership or the Charge RN. Key responsibilities include: Assisting physicians and RNs with endoscopic procedures. Assisting with pre, intra, and post-endoscopic care of the patient, including monitoring vital signs as necessary. Making beds, cleaning rooms, and serving as a runner for equipment during procedures and for patient transport as necessary. Properly positioning patients pre and intra-procedure. Selecting the correct endoscope and performing quality control checks pre-procedure. Entering patient and procedure information into endoscopy report writing software as needed. Handling and managing procedure accessory equipment to include endoscopic forceps, polyp snares, endoscopic clips, and specimen collection containers. Supporting airway via head positioning and performing oropharyngeal suctioning. Providing abdominal pressure as guided by the provider. Collecting specimens and labeling them accurately. Performing immediate post-procedure endoscope pre-cleaning. Setting up for, assembling, and disassembling accessories for various technical procedures. Troubleshooting problems with endoscopes and necessary support equipment. Cleaning and processing equipment after procedures, including testing for leaks and other troubleshooting. Performing high-level disinfection of endoscopes and accessories. Assisting with other duties or projects as assigned. This role requires familiarity with endoscopy equipment or scope/instrument reprocessing, preferred.
