Key Responsibilities
  • Scrub in on a variety of advanced and complex surgical procedures under professional nurse supervision, anticipating surgeon preferences for instruments and materials.
  • Set up and maintain sterile tables with required instruments, equipment, supplies, and medications/solutions for surgical procedures.
  • Disassemble, clean, reassemble, and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization; monitor supplies and instruments to ensure sterility and support quality assurance.
  • Update the supervising nurse based on ongoing assessment of equipment needs and physician preferences, demonstrating sound clinical judgment and adaptability.
  • Inventory and monitor assigned service supplies, ordering as needed, and contribute to the development of educational programs and learning aids for the department.
  • Provide backup call coverage for emergency cases that may require two surgical technicians.
Required Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Completion of a surgical technologist training program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or a recognized accrediting agency.
  • Active Surgical Technologist Certification (CST) required at time of submission.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Flu vaccination required prior to assignment start.
  • Knowledge of anatomy and physiology, surgical instrumentation, suturing materials, wound healing, sterile technique, and patient positioning.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Minimum of 1 year of surgical technologist experience preferred.
  • Familiarity with normal growth, development, and life cycle changes as they relate to patient care.
