Job Title: Surgical Technician Profession: Technician Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8 or 10 Experience: CVOR and Cardiothoracic experience (CABG, Valve replacements, VATS, Robotic chest procedures) License: Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) Certifications: BLS Certification Must-Have: - CVOR experience Description: Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique and maintains asepsis. Anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed. Actively participates in patient care and safety. Utilizes operating room supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the surgical staff. Follows infection control policies and procedures and demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique. Adheres to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively. Assists the surgeon when needed in gowning, gloving, draping, and passing of instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipates the surgeon's need for instruments, sutures, and equipment. Maintains an organized operative field at all times by keeping the instruments clean and in their proper place. Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count. Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards and identifies conflicts or problems. Cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case. Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient, identifying potential hazards. Displays knowledge of potential hazards within the operating room. Utilizes experienced staff as a resource and acts as a resource for new personnel. Assists in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the direction of the surgeon. Handles and identifies specimens per policy. Expedites the effective and efficient turnover of the operating room between cases. Takes rotating call duty. Performs additional responsibilities as requested. Schedule includes a day rotation (Monday to Friday) with potential call requirements.
