Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: CST/ORT Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 06:30 - 17:00 Hours per Shift: 10 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required Certifications: BLS required (AHA only), Certified Surgical Technologist or LVN/LPN License required Must-Have: - CVOR experience required - Minimum of 2 years Neurosurgery experience - Experience in General, Orthopedic, Plastic, Urology, ENT, and Vascular surgery preferred Description: Performs a variety of technical duties to assist in preparing and caring for pre-operative patients. Prepares patients' skin for surgery in accordance with hospital standards. Maintains aseptic techniques and actively monitors situations that could lead to breaches in aseptic technique. Provides comfort and support for pre-operative patients by demonstrating sensitivity to patient care and privacy. Transports patients to and from the Operating Room suite. Positions patients according to the type of surgery. Identifies and cares for biological specimens. Prepares the Operating Room by setting up tables, instruments, and supplies according to the type of case. Under the direction of a professional nurse, performs processes that relate to the delivery of direct patient care and assistance care in the Operating Room prior to and during any surgical procedure. Ability to proficiently scrub in three specialty areas, including but not limited to Transplants, Open Heart, Urology, Client, Titanium Rib, Robotics, is highly preferred. Establishes and maintains the sterile field, passes instruments, and sutures to the physician, and assists as directed by the physician. Uses the physician preference cards as a beginning point when pulling cases and setting up the Operating Room. Ensures that preference cards are kept up to date and as complete as possible. Works effectively as a member of the team caring for the patient. Maintains a safe environment by always implementing technical and aseptic practices. Demonstrates clinical expertise in the use and care of all surgical supplies, instruments, and equipment. Adheres to Universal Barrier Precautions for patient and personal safety in all patient care situations. Demonstrates competency to monitor and control the surgical environment. Maintains proper traffic control, dress codes, and adherence to Operating Room sanitation policies and procedures. Demonstrates competency to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the population-specific and developmental needs of patients served. Appropriately adapts assigned patient assessment, treatment, and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific, and other developmental needs of each patient served. Performs other duties as assigned.
