Job Title: Surgical Technician Profession: Technician Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Evening Rotational Hours per Shift: Either 5, 8-hour shifts, or 4, 10-hour shifts with a daily shift end time of 11:30 PM Experience: Previous Operating Room experience preferred; Previous Surgical Technologist experience preferred License: N/A Certifications: - NBSTSA - Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) - BLS Certification (AHA, HSI, or American Red Cross) Must-Have: - Expertise in surgical scrub technique - Adherence to principles of sterile technique preoperatively and intra-operatively Description: Under general direction, observes and practices sterile technique. Maintains asepsis and anticipates and assists the surgeon as needed. Actively participates in patient care and safety. Utilizes OR supplies conservatively and operates as a team member of the OR staff. Follows infection control policies and procedures. Demonstrates expertise in surgical scrub technique. Assists the surgeon when needed with gowning, gloving, draping, and passing instruments and other related items during the procedure. Anticipates the surgeon's need for instruments, sutures, and equipment. Maintains an organized operative field at all times. Keeps instruments clean and in their proper place. Keeps an accurate sponge, tape, needle, dissector, and instrument count. Prepares for cases by assembling supplies and equipment in accordance with preference cards. Identifies conflicts or problems and cares appropriately for instruments and supplies after each case. Provides a safe surgical environment for the patient. Identifies potential hazards to the surgeon and assisting staff in preoperative checks of equipment. Displays knowledge of potential hazards within the Operating Room. Utilizes experienced OR staff as a resource and acts as a resource for new OR personnel. Assists in suturing, retracting, and suctioning under the direction of the surgeon. Handles and identifies specimens per policy. Expedites the effective and efficient turn-over of the OR between cases. Takes rotating call duty. Performs additional responsibilities as requested.
