Job Title: Surgical Technologist Profession: Surgical Technologist Specialty: Agency Staff Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Days Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: Required certifications Certifications: CST, BLS Must-Have: - CV/open heart scrub experience - CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) required - Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Description: The Surgical Technologist maintains responsibility for the preparation of the surgical suite. This includes intra-operative handling of instruments and maintenance of the sterile field. The Surgical Technologist evaluates changing conditions during surgical procedures and makes appropriate responses. They are responsible for maintaining knowledge of surgical procedures and principles related to those procedures. This role includes serving as a Preceptor and engaging with management and the education team on educational curriculum. Essential Functions: Providing sterile instruments and supplies during surgical procedures is a key responsibility. Performing surgical sponge, needle, and instrument counts is required. Preparing case tables with necessary equipment, sterile supplies, instruments, and medications/solutions for each surgical case is essential. Assisting in positioning patients for surgical procedures and maintaining a protective position throughout the case is part of the role. The Surgical Technologist creates and maintains a sterile and safe environment. Taking an active role in preference card building and management through communication with surgical staff is expected. Engaging with surgical teams to make suggestions regarding instrument sets is important. Actively contributing to case costing and connecting with staff to make cost savings suggestions is part of the job. Qualifications: Preferred associate's degree. Three years of relevant experience required. Independent Surgical Technologist Practice is required. CRT-Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from either the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross is required within 90 days. CRT-Surgical Technologist, Certified (CST) or Tech in Surgery Certified (TS-C) required upon hire. Physical Demands: Lifting and carrying weights greater than five pounds occurs occasionally. Frequent standing and walking is expected. The role may involve activities like forward bending, trunk rotation, reaching, and maintaining dexterity with hands. Visual acuity is necessary for recognizing and handling instruments and supplies.
