Job Title: Surgical Tech Profession: Surgical Tech Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 8H Days Hours per Shift: 8 hours varied days Experience: Minimum 2 years of experience required License: Required Certifications: BLS Certification, CST Must-Have: 2 years of Operating Room experience required. Travel experience preferred. Description: Unit consists of 7 operating room suites. Average of 15-20 cases performed per day. Technicians and Registered Nurses must possess BLS certification. Electronic Medical Record system utilized is Cerner Surginet. Charge Nurse is available, but not 24/7. Operating Room technicians are present in the unit. Registered Nurses are required to be on call one weekend per month. Certified Surgical Technologists are required to be on call one weekend per month. Call response time is 30 minutes. Working on holidays is required only in emergencies. Scrub colors and uniforms are provided. Telemedicine systems in use include Phillips. Surgeons are on call 24/7. No IV team is present. Respiratory therapy is available 24/7. Pharmacy services available only until 10 PM; alternative contacts for after hours. Shifts are 8 hours with variable start times, with scheduling managed by the manager. No floating between units is required. Floor specific orientation will depend on skill set. Common cases include high volumes of orthopedic procedures including total joint replacements, general surgeries, gynecological surgeries, pediatric surgeries, and eye surgeries. Cardiac cases include open heart surgeries, carotid endarterectomies, and TAVR procedures, but travelers will not participate in these surgeries. Scrubbing is a requirement. Scrubbing by Registered Nurses is preferred but not required. Certifications for sterile processing technicians include BLS certification and certification through IAHCSMM. Equipment utilized includes autoclaves, Steris, and V-Pro. Cancellation policy allows for the cancellation of up to 4 shifts during a 13-week assignment and 3 shifts for shorter assignments. Charting system is Cerner. A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is not required. Trauma level is unspecified. Care settings include acute care environments. Division is allied health. Shift notes indicate 8 hours of varied days.
