Assists the healthcare team in providing safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care. Possesses the knowledge, skill, and ability to perform duties within the context of moderate to high acuity surgical cases. Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and other members of the healthcare team. Exhibits an acquisition of additional surgical skills for progressively more difficult cases. Demonstrates an efficient, organized surgical plan for assigned cases. Takes initiative to discuss the surgical plan with other members of the healthcare team. Able to troubleshoot instruments and equipment. Anticipates any additional supplies or equipment required for procedures. Ability to mentor, precept, or train in various modalities. Participates in performance improvement initiatives. Duties include preparation of the operative suite and surgical field to ensure a safe patient care environment. Maintains vigilance for the maintenance of the sterile field and other patient safety concerns. Gathers required instruments and supplies and serves as a surgical assistant as needed. Additional duties may include assisting with inventory, ordering, and stocking areas as assigned. Ensures compliance with relevant standards at all times. Call or late coverage may be required related to the facility. Checks supplies and equipment needed for surgical procedures. Assists with room setup, including opening sterile supplies. Sets up the sterile table with instruments, supplies, equipment, and medication/solutions needed for the procedure. Performs surgical counts with the circulator. Actively participates in the procedure pause/time-out. Scrubs, gowns, and gloves; gowns and gloves for the surgeon and assistants. Assists in draping the sterile field. Maintains an organized back table and operative field. Anticipates and offers suggestions throughout the procedure. Maintains the highest standard of sterile technique during procedures. Prepares sterile dressings. Participates in post-procedure pause, accounting for proper handling of specimens. Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization. Applies principles of asepsis to prevent infection and ensure safety. Prepares case carts according to procedure and preference cards. Observes patient conditions and reports any changes or significant findings. Proactively plans for the next steps in the procedure. Prepares operating rooms and other areas as needed. Maintains financial stewardship related to supplies and equipment. Provides safe, age-appropriate, and culturally aware patient care. Demonstrates teamwork and collaboration. Assists other team members with cleaning the room. Assists in preparing the room for the next patient. Participates in performance improvement initiatives. Completes all initial and annual competencies and education. Provides a positive learning environment for students and new hires. Maintains new information and implements new processes or equipment. Serves as a resource for new technology or procedures. Completes all required training and education. Maintains organization and cleanliness of the surgical area.
