Job Title: Surgical Technician-NCA Profession: Tech Specialty: Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift Hours per Shift: 6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Experience: Two years of Surgical Tech experience required License: N/A Certifications: BLS, CST (Certified Surgical Technologist) Must-Have: - Aseptic technique - Surgical instrumentation preparation - Surgical equipment handling - Assisting during surgical procedures - Medical terminology Description: The Surgical Technician-NCA assists other members of the health care team in delivering patient care during the intra-operative period. The major focus for this position is the preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment and assisting the surgeon during surgical procedures. This individual administers care and uses equipment applications based on the age and needs of the patient population served, from neonate through geriatric. The Surgical Technician must be knowledgeable of specific procedures or specialties. They must effectively prioritize and plan, and problem-solve due to the changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures. This individual must have the ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations. The Surgical Technician must also have a basic knowledge of medical terminology, the metric system, and aseptic technique, and apply this knowledge in all patient and family interactions. The Surgical Technician displays aseptic technique in performing surgical duties to ensure positive patient outcomes. They demonstrate responsibility for the care, preparation, handling, and maintenance of surgical instrumentation. The Surgical Technician consistently performs sponge, sharps, and instrument counts according to policy and procedure. They demonstrate knowledge and adherence to professional standards of practice.
