Certified Surgical First Assistant (CSFA)

Schedule / Job TypeContract | Days | Varied shift lengths available (8s, 10s, and 12s with varied start times, primarily day/evening)
Key Responsibilities- Provide first assist services across a high-volume main OR with 14 suites averaging 28 cases per day including add-on cases
- Assist in a broad range of surgical specialties including orthopedics, neuro spine, total joints, open fractures, general surgery, and ENT
- Maintain proficiency in assisting with orthopedic procedures as a core function of the role
- Participate in weekend and weeknight call rotations, including one 12-hour weeknight call shift per week and one 24-hour weekend call shift per month
- Assist with room turnover as needed; no dedicated housekeeping or aide support in the OR
- Document and navigate patient care using EPIC EMR
Required Qualifications- Active CST and CSFA certifications required (ABSA certifications are not accepted)
- Graduate of a CAAHEP-accredited Surgical Assistant program
- BLS certification required
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a surgical first assistant in the specialty
- Minimum of 2–3 previous travel assignments required
- Demonstrated proficiency assisting in orthopedic surgical cases
Preferred Experience / Skills- Experience in neuro spine surgical cases
- Familiarity with EPIC EMR platform
- Ability to scrub cases in addition to first assist duties
