Job Title: Certified Surgical First Assistant Profession: Certified Surgical First Assistant Specialty: Certified Surgical First Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Shift - 4x10's Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: Minimum Years of Experience: Not specified License: Surgical First Assistant (CSFA) certification required Certifications: Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification or Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required Must-Have: AHA-BLS or ARC-BLS certification required Description: Provides assistance to the primary surgeon during surgical procedures. Provides exposure, hemostasis, tying or sewing, and other functions as determined by the primary surgeon. Works with the team in the operating room to ensure that the patient receives quality care. Maintains responsibility for accurately performing routine assigned clinical tasks of limited complexity. Prepares and positions patients for surgery. Assists in the visualization of the operating field. Provides hemostasis and harvests surgical grafts. Performs closure of incisions and applies various wound dressings. Works under direct supervision or within defined parameters. Performs pre-and postoperative activities to facilitate optimal patient care. Verifies the availability of surgical equipment and supplies. Prepares and maintains the operating room environment according to surgical procedures. Obtains diagnostic studies for reference and reviews tests to identify results. Performs surgical hand scrub, gowning, and gloving. Coordinates and participates in draping of patients. Verifies operative consent and other pertinent information. Elevates questions and significant challenges to more senior staff for direction. Reviews patient medical charts and associated documentation. Makes decisions regarding own work, often limited to routine matters. Requires minimal independent judgment.
