Job Title: Certified Surgical First Assistant Profession: Surgical Services Specialty: Surgical First Assistant Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 10 hours Experience: 2 years required License: Must have DC license in hand Certifications: BLS, ARC-ST, AST, ACS, SASA, and by CAAHEP (CHEA) Must-Have: Must have DC license in hand upon submission 2 years of experience required 1 previous travel assignment required Description: The position requires a Certified Surgical First Assistant. Work hours are from 06:30 to 17:00 on a 4x10-hour schedule. On-call duties may be required with a weekend/holiday rotation. One weekend of call is expected every 8 weeks. Candidates will assist in various surgical cases including bariatrics, orthopedic procedures, robotics, trauma, and urology. Strong surgical first assist skills are necessary. Experience in acute inpatient and outpatient operating rooms is preferred. Knowledge of electrosurgical units and the Da Vinci surgical systems is required. The candidate must exhibit proficiency in aseptic techniques and surgical assisting skills. Experience with patient demographics including adults and geriatrics is necessary. Interdisciplinary support includes IU teams, pharmacy, and physical therapy. The daily census ranges from 50 to 100 cases. Candidates should be prepared for a dynamic surgical environment and adhere to all safety protocols. No requested time off is permitted during the first two weeks of the assignment. All certifications must be current and validated. The candidate will be required to provide two supervisory references. Candidates must be comfortable proceeding without an interview.
