Job Title: Sterile Processing Technician Profession: Tech Specialty: Sterile Processing Duration: 14 weeks Shift: Evening Hours per Shift: 8 hours Experience: 1+ years of experience preferred License: N/A Certifications: CRCST required Must-Have: - STERILE PROCESSING - INSTRUMENT ASSEMBLY - INSTRUMENT CLEANING - INSTRUMENT STERILIZATION - MEDICAL EQUIPMENT DISINFECTION Description: The position is responsible for assembling, cleaning, disinfecting, sterilizing, and storing procedure trays, surgical trays, and equipment. Also assembles, distributes, and delivers disposable and durable medical equipment, case carts, and supplies to fill the needs of the Operating Room, Nursing Units, and Ancillary Departments. Operates and monitors sterilization equipment. Disassembles carts and follows Universal Precautions for decontamination. Sterilizes and disinfects durable medical equipment and instruments, packages clean supplies and instruments, maintains records for all instruments, and transports sterilized items. Assembles sterilized instruments and rechecks all instruments for cleanliness and impairment. Properly checks power equipment. Takes measures to allow for easy instrument tracking, including following labeling processes, use of engraver, and reporting and documenting all missing instruments and implants replaced in trays. Communicates the equipment and instrument inventory status with staff and the Surgery Charge Nurse, including order status and back orders. Responds to emergency situations by ensuring all emergency and add-on cases are supplied properly and delivered in a timely manner. Utilizes applications and technology to accurately facilitate record-keeping in accordance with regulations. Provides on-the-job training to newly hired associates in the department. Promotes the mission, vision, and values of the organization and abides by service behavior standards. Performs other duties as assigned. May be required to float to other departments based on business need. May be required to be placed on-call during a regularly scheduled shift. Ability to communicate effectively and diplomatically within a multi-functional team. Experience and understanding in the use of computers, as well as the ability to learn software relevant to Sterile Processing. Ability to successfully function in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
