Job Summary:
Step Down Unit Nurse position in Weirton, West Virginia. The role involves providing care for cardiac patients and post-procedure patients in a 30-bed unit with a nurse-to-patient ratio of 1:4-6, depending on acuity. The position requires active engagement in acute patient care and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.

Job Details:

  • Shift: 12-hour day/night rotating shifts, with weekends as scheduled, minimum of 36 hours per week.
  • Required Certifications: BLS (Basic Life Support), ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support).
  • Education and Experience: Minimum of 2 years of Step Down (post-acute care) or Progressive Critical Care Unit (PCU) experience.
  • Responsibilities: Performing activities of daily living, vital signs, bathing, toileting, feeding, repositioning, answering call lights, blood sugar monitoring.
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring and titrating cardiac drips such as cardizem, amio, nitro, heparin, dopamine, dobutamine, angiomax is required.
  • Nurse aides/patient care techs are present on the unit to assist with duties.
  • Additional clinical details: Use of respiratory therapy equipment like vents, Cpap, BiPap, high flow devices; RNs should be capable of troubleshooting these as needed.
  • Monitoring: RNs are expected to read and interpret telemonitor strips, print measurements, and identify rhythms.
  • Leadership: Charge nurses on each shift may take patient assignments if necessary.
  • Float Policy: Travelers can float to any inpatient unit, and floatation to other units may be required.
  • Dress Code: Navy blue scrubs.
  • Orientation: Initial 2 days of unit-specific orientation, plus 1 day with preceptor.
  • Cancellation Policy: Up to 2 shifts may be canceled per 13-week assignment or 1 shift for shorter assignments.
  • License: Candidates must hold and be able to submit an active license.
  • Start Date: 07/20/2026.
