Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Surgical PCU/Stepdown position at a Level I Trauma, Magnet-designated teaching hospital, requiring ventilator experience and Epic proficiency.

Details

  • Night shift schedule: 4x12-hour shifts, 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Weekend requirement: Every other weekend (EOW) or 6 weekend shifts per 6-week scheduling block
  • One holiday required per 13-week contract period
  • Surgical PCU functioning as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, with bariatric specialty and backup to the trauma unit
  • Typical patient ratio of 1:5 with a staffing goal of 1:4
  • Unit includes 2 beds designated for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level)
  • Respiratory support provided includes CPAP and BiPAP
  • Equipment used includes ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tools, PICC lines, and multi-lumen catheters (MML)
  • IV drips managed include Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, low-dose Dopamine/Dobutamine, Amiodarone, Nitroglycerin, Bumex, Lasix, Lidocaine, and Ketamine (no titration)
  • Remote telemetry monitoring with monitors remaining on-unit; tele sitting implemented to supplement Patient Care Tech coverage
  • Floating required within skillset
  • Charting via Epic (experience required)
  • Contract length up to 26 weeks available by request

Requirements

  • Active Virginia state RN license or Compact RN license currently in hand; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current certifications required: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Ventilator care experience required, specifically with chronic trach patients
  • Proficiency in cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation and management, and emergency response
  • Experience with IV therapy, phlebotomy, blood product administration, and central/peripheral line care
  • Experience with respiratory support modalities including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • Experience in Rapid Response and Code team activation
  • Familiarity with isolation precautions and telemetry settings across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown unit environments
  • Epic EMR experience required
  • Two professional references required for consideration
  • Valid Driver's License and Social Security card required for consideration
