Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Trauma Stepdown (IMC/PCU) position requiring a WV or Compact RN license and prior ICU/Trauma or PCU/IMC/SDU experience.

Details

  • Work in a 5S Trauma Stepdown unit within a Level 1 Trauma Center and major teaching hospital
  • Unit includes 25 floor beds, 6 step-down beds, and 6 pediatric beds
  • Multidisciplinary care for multi-system-injured trauma and surgical patients
  • Travelers are not required to care for pediatric patients and may be assigned floor beds only depending on unit needs
  • Patient ratios are 1:5 on the floor and 1:3 in the step-down unit
  • Day shift schedule (3x12 or 4x12), 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, with every other weekend required
  • 36 or 48-hour contract options available with a guaranteed 36 hours per week
  • Floating required within scope to meet facility needs
  • Orientation and start dates occur every other Thursday
  • Uses Cerner charting system

Requirements

  • Active WV or Compact RN license required (pending license accepted for consideration)
  • Minimum 2 years of RN experience required, including 1 year in-specialty experience
  • Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, CPI, and Fit Test (TNCC preferred)
  • Level 1 Trauma experience preferred
  • Cerner charting experience preferred
  • Required skills include IV starts, ventilator management, telemetry monitoring, and conscious sedation
  • Experience in PCU, IMC, Trauma, or SDU settings preferred
  • First-time travelers accepted if experienced in ICU or Trauma
  • Two Manager or Charge Nurse references from within the past 2 years required for consideration

Additional Information

  • Provide nursing care to multi-system trauma and surgical patients in a Level 1 Trauma teaching hospital setting
  • Scrub color required: Royal Blue/White for RNs
  • Flu vaccine required during flu season (October 1 - March 31) unless medical exemption documented; COVID vaccine not required
  • Fit testing required in advance using an approved mask; candidates may need to travel up to 100 miles to complete this test
  • Free parking provided for travelers
  • Schedule requests for blocked shifts may be accommodated
  • Holiday RTO requests limited to no more than 1 of the 3 major holidays
  • Candidates must live more than 100 miles from the facility; those within 75-99 miles may be considered case-by-case at the same rate
  • Manager may cancel a shift up to once per two-week pay period if necessary
  • Former permanent employees must wait 2 years from their last permanent employment date before returning as a traveler
