Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans within the scope of professional licensure.
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and arterial puncture procedures.
  • Perform 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines.
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care including tube insertion and removal.
  • Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; maintain accurate respiratory therapy records, patient charting, and therapy charging documentation.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Michigan Respiratory Therapist license required prior to start.
  • Current ACLS certification required prior to start.
  • Current BLS certification required.
  • Demonstrated competency in operating invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment and related respiratory care devices.
  • Ability to perform arterial puncture, interpret results, and monitor/report ventilation efficiency.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy outcomes.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation.
  • Familiarity with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal tube insertion and removal.
  • Experience performing PleurX catheter drainage or similar chest drainage procedures.
