Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, arterial puncture, and 12-Lead EKG with basic arrhythmia recognition
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
  • Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope; set up, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges in the patient chart and respiratory care records; communicate findings to attending and pulmonary physicians
Required Qualifications
  • Active Michigan Respiratory Therapist license (required prior to start)
  • Current ACLS certification (required prior to start)
  • Current BLS certification
  • Ability to operate and maintain a wide range of ventilatory and respiratory care equipment
  • Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
  • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage and similar chest drainage devices
  • Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation
