Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices as physician prescribed
  • Perform arterial punctures, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, chest physiotherapy, and patient suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods
  • Perform 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and routine review of patient chest x-rays to determine need for further evaluation
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
  • Perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via free hand technique and/or video laryngoscope system; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift walking rounds and with attending and pulmonary physicians
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist license within the applicable state scope of practice
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Demonstrated ability to operate and maintain mechanical ventilation equipment and perform ventilator set-up and self-testing
  • Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret results to determine ventilation efficiency
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and manage patient transport into and out of the facility
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation per pre-analytic, analytic, and post-analytic testing phases
  • Experience with PleurX catheter or similar chest drainage devices
  • Familiarity with patient and family education related to respiratory treatments and home discharge planning
