Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, operating invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
  • Evaluate patients, recommend treatment plans, and conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments; explain procedures and equipment to patients and provide discharge education.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and routine chest x-ray review.
  • Perform arterial punctures, 12-Lead EKGs, basic arrhythmia recognition, tracheostomy care including tube insertion and removal, and endotracheal tube insertion and removal via free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope.
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines.
  • Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges accurately in the patient chart.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist license in good standing.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Demonstrated competency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation.
  • Ability to perform arterial punctures, pulmonary function studies, and advanced airway management techniques.
  • Strong documentation skills including accurate charting and respiratory therapy charge entry.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience assisting with bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomy, and chest tube placement procedures.
  • Familiarity with moderate complexity laboratory testing policies and procedures including specimen handling and quality controls.
  • Experience with PleurX catheter drainage or similar chest drainage devices.
