Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision, including floating within the market as needed
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, arterial puncture, and 12-Lead EKG with basic arrhythmia recognition
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes in both emergent and non-emergent situations
  • Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair of respiratory equipment as needed
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate effectively with attending and pulmonary physicians and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist licensure in the state of Tennessee
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Proficiency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation, oxygen delivery systems, and aerosol therapy
  • Ability to perform arterial puncture, endotracheal intubation via free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and float within the market as required
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in moderate complexity laboratory testing including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
  • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage and routine chest x-ray review
  • Experience with patient and family education regarding respiratory treatments and home discharge instructions
