Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices as physician prescribed
  • Perform arterial punctures, pulmonary function studies, oximetry and capnography monitoring, chest physiotherapy, and patient suctioning via various methods
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, chest tube placement, and tracheostomy care including tube insertion and removal
  • Perform 12-Lead EKG, basic arrhythmia recognition, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation in accordance with BLS and ACLS guidelines
  • Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift handoff rounds
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist license within the applicable state
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification
  • Proficiency with invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment and respiratory care devices
  • Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret results to assess ventilation efficiency
  • Competency in endotracheal intubation via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols
  • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage procedures
  • Experience with routine chest x-ray review to identify need for further clinical evaluation
