Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision; evaluate patients and recommend treatment plans.
  • Operate invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation; perform set-up, self-testing, and ongoing monitoring of mechanical ventilation equipment.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, arterial punctures, and 12-Lead EKGs with basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes in both emergent and non-emergent situations.
  • Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines; perform endotracheal tube insertion and removal via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope system.
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate findings and therapy efficiency to attending and pulmonary physicians and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist license valid in the state of Pennsylvania.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Demonstrated competency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation equipment.
  • Ability to perform arterial punctures, pulmonary function studies, and interpret chest x-rays for further evaluation needs.
  • Experience with tracheostomy care, endotracheal intubation, and airway management procedures.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols.
  • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage and similar pleural drainage devices.
  • Prior experience assisting with bronchoscopy and percutaneous tracheostomy procedures.
