Job Title

Respiratory Therapist – Night Shift

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional licensure and with minimal supervision, including evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans.
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, arterial punctures, and 12-Lead EKGs with basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes in both emergent and non-emergent situations.
  • Set up, self-test, operate, maintain, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair of respiratory equipment as needed.
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges in patient records; communicate with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy effectiveness and participate in shift-to-shift handoff communication.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist licensure in the state of Illinois.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certifications.
  • Demonstrated competency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation and related respiratory equipment.
  • Ability to perform arterial punctures and interpret results to assess ventilation efficiency.
  • Experience performing endotracheal intubation via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope system.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols.
  • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage procedures or similar chest drainage devices.
  • Prior experience in an acute care or intensive care hospital environment.
