Key Responsibilities
  • Provide intensive respiratory care and patient transport as medically prescribed, evaluating patients and recommending treatment plans within the scope of professional licensure.
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments utilizing invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
  • Perform chest physiotherapy, suctioning (oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal), oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and arterial punctures.
  • Perform 12-Lead EKG with basic arrhythmia recognition, routine chest x-ray review, and assist with procedures such as bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement.
  • Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges; communicate patient status during shift-to-shift handoff and with attending and pulmonary physicians.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist licensure or certification as required by state regulations.
  • Current BLS and ACLS certification.
  • Demonstrated competency with invasive and non-invasive mechanical ventilation equipment.
  • Ability to perform arterial puncture, endotracheal intubation (freehand and video laryngoscope), and tracheostomy care including tube insertion and removal.
  • Ability to perform pulmonary function studies (NIF, VC, etc.) and cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting with knowledge of specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation protocols.
  • Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage procedures or similar devices.
  • Experience with video laryngoscope systems for endotracheal intubation.
