Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct physician-prescribed respiratory treatments including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices to administer prescribed medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation.
  • Perform patient assessments, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and recommend or adjust treatment plans; communicate findings to attending and pulmonary physicians.
  • Perform procedures including arterial puncture, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, tracheostomy care, endotracheal tube insertion and removal, and assistance with bronchoscopy and percutaneous tracheostomy procedures.
  • Monitor patients using oximetry, capnography, and pulmonary function studies; perform 12-lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition; conduct routine review of chest x-rays.
  • Set up, self-test, operate, and maintain mechanical ventilation and other respiratory equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed.
  • Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges in the patient chart and respiratory care records; provide thorough shift-to-shift handoff communication.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Respiratory Therapist license or eligibility to practice in the state of South Carolina.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification.
  • Current ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation and advanced airway management including endotracheal intubation via freehand technique and/or video laryngoscope.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience in an acute care or intensive care setting providing complex respiratory therapy services.
  • Familiarity with moderate complexity laboratory testing protocols including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation requirements.
  • Experience with PleurX catheter drainage and advanced secretion clearance techniques.
