Job Description & Requirements
Certified Respiratory Therapist - Long-term Acute Care - (CRT - Acute)
StartDate: ASAP Available Shifts: 12 N Pay Rate: $1828.00 - $1883.00

This Respiratory Therapist opportunity is based in a long-term acute care hospital in Ormond Beach, Florida, a coastal community known for its relaxed beach-town charm, scenic beauty, and easy access to nearby Daytona Beach. Ormond Beach offers a balance of laid-back lifestyle and modern amenities, with wide sandy shores, riverside parks, and a welcoming community that appeals to both long-time residents and newcomers. Living and working in Ormond Beach means enjoying year-round sunshine, mild winters, and abundant outdoor activities. You can spend off days walking or biking along the picturesque Tomoka River, exploring local nature trails, or relaxing on uncrowded beaches. The area offers convenient access to water sports, fishing, boating, and golf, as well as family-friendly attractions, local restaurants, and shops. Orlando and its world-famous theme parks are an easy drive away, offering even more options for weekend adventures and entertainment. This long-term acute care setting focuses on medically complex patients who require extended hospitalization and high-acuity respiratory support. As a Respiratory Therapist here, you will be part of a collaborative interdisciplinary team dedicated to providing advanced, individualized care. The facility cares for patients with prolonged ventilator dependence, complex pulmonary conditions, multi-system involvement, post-surgical complications, and those transitioning from intensive care units who still require close monitoring and specialized respiratory management. A typical day in this role includes assessing, planning, and delivering respiratory care to adult patients with varying levels of acuity. You will perform ventilator management, administer respiratory therapies and medications, perform and interpret arterial blood gas analyses, and assist with airway management and tracheostomy care. You will also be involved in ventilator weaning protocols and collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other disciplines to develop and implement individualized care plans. The patient population in this LTAC setting tends to have longer lengths of stay than traditional acute care hospitals, allowing you to develop deeper therapeutic relationships and see the impact of your interventions over time. Patient ratios are designed to allow a focus on quality and safety, with the respiratory team working closely with nursing and medical staff to ensure timely response to changes in patient condition. Shifts are typically structured to provide 24/7 coverage, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays, allowing for scheduling options that can support a healthy work-life balance. As part of the respiratory care team, you can expect a supportive environment where questions are encouraged, teamwork is valued, and continuous learning is part of daily practice. Working in this LTAC role is an excellent resume builder, offering extensive exposure to advanced ventilator management, long-term weaning, and complex medical cases. You will gain experience with high-acuity patients similar to those in intensive care units, while also honing skills in patient and family education and discharge planning for chronic respiratory needs. This experience can support future career paths in critical care, leadership roles, or specialized respiratory practice.
