They will train and act as a resource for the respiratory department. Employees must complete all required education on time. The therapist maintains knowledge of various methods of oxygen delivery and the necessary equipment. They remain alert and assess possible side effects of oxygen delivery. The therapist demonstrates knowledge of treatment modalities for patients of varying ages, including pediatric, adolescent, and geriatric patients. They understand oxygen concentrations and medication doses pertinent to these age groups. The therapist administers respiratory therapy treatments and nebulized medications, understanding the purpose and possible side effects of each. They set up and monitor mechanical ventilators and perform associated critical care duties. The therapist conducts arterial punctures to obtain blood gas samples, understanding possible complications. They follow equipment sterilization procedures and document all pertinent data in the patient's medical record. The therapist maintains thorough knowledge of electronic health records and their proper usage. They formulate and evaluate a teaching plan based on the identified learning needs of patients and their families. The therapist treats patients and their families with respect and dignity. They coordinate and direct patient care to ensure needs are met in accordance with hospital policy. The therapist assesses patients and their ability to tolerate treatment while reassessing their response. They collaborate with other departments to coordinate patient care effectively. The therapist manages and operates equipment safely and correctly, inspecting and testing respiratory therapy equipment for safety and efficiency. They participate in performance improvement activities and attend education in-service programs to maintain professional competency. The therapist independently pursues professional development opportunities. They attend department meetings and use communication tools to stay informed of department and organizational issues. The therapist performs additional duties as assigned by the department manager. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are required. Advanced math skills are needed for data analysis and interpretation. Attention to detail and organizational skills are essential for prioritizing tasks. The ability to work in a busy and stressful environment is necessary. Flexibility with varied shifts is required. Tact, discretion, sensitivity, and confidentiality must be exercised. Proficiency in computer applications, electronic medical records, and standard office equipment is required. Physical Requirements: The position involves lifting up to 50 pounds occasionally. It requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods. The therapist may need to climb rarely and frequently engage in twisting, bending, and stooping. They must be able to reach above shoulder level and perform repetitive fine finger movements. Close visual acuity is required to analyze data and read printed materials.
