Job Title: Pulmonary Function Technician Profession: Cardiopulmonary Specialty: Pulmonary Function Tech, Respiratory Therapy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Nights 7p-7a Hours per Shift: 36 Experience: Must have experience in the therapeutic modalities mentioned License: Current state license as a Respiratory Care Practitioner required Certifications: Basic Life Support required, National Board of Respiratory Care certification Must-Have: Must have ability to work in a team environment Description: Responsible for the drawing and analysis of arterial blood gases. Conduct patient assessments and manage Therapist Driven Protocols. Perform continuous mechanical ventilator management and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Execute bronchial hygiene, chest physical therapy, oxygen administration, hyperinflation therapy, and aerosol therapy. Screen pulmonary function studies and perform emergency procedures. Maintain CPR certification and demonstrate teamwork in all situations. Conduct pulse oximetry and ensure proper cleaning and changing of equipment. If applicable, charge duties including workload prioritization and staff distribution. Present one topic per year to the Respiratory Therapy staff. Maintain a keen interest in the latest trends within the profession. Complete documentation for all activities as outlined including EMR and treatment cards. Support and promote the mission and values of the organization. Document all respiratory therapy treatments in the electronic medical record. Accurately note breath sounds, cough effectiveness, sputum production, and other relevant information. Conduct thorough assessments for proper initiation of protocols encompassing frequency and duration of therapeutic regimens. Ensure all paperwork is completed for oncoming shifts. Document patient and family education in electronic medical record. Perform therapy as ordered and monitor for adverse reactions. Engage in interaction with healthcare providers for appropriate therapy modifications. Initiate oxygen rounds and therapy as required, making adjustments as needed based on monitoring. Respond to Trauma and Code Blue activations and take immediate action to establish the airway. Demonstrate competency in the performance of endotracheal intubation and other critical care procedures. Document ventilator parameters, changes, and patient statuses efficiently. Communicate effectively with staff and other team members regarding patient care. Exhibit good judgment and independent decision-making regarding therapy procedures. Take appropriate steps in case of staffing voids per departmental policy. Complete any additional duties consistent with the role. Maintain initial and annual equipment competencies as developed by the clinical coordinator. Complete all required learning assignments by their due dates. Promote individual and departmental growth through new ideas and concepts.
