Job Title: Registered Respiratory Therapist Profession: Respiratory Therapist Specialty: Respiratory Therapy Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 12 hours NOC Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum of 2 years License: RRT, TX License Certifications: BLS (AHA Only) Must-Have: Degree in Respiratory Care Description: The Registered Respiratory Therapist has advanced knowledge and training of the cardiopulmonary system. This knowledge is used to manage and treat patients effectively. Therapists will utilize different scientific principles, therapies, and techniques to optimize patient care and outcomes. They perform and direct the administration of respiratory care services. Services include oxygen therapy, aerosol therapy, inhaled medication, airway clearance, invasive and non-invasive ventilation, and bedside spirometry. These services are administered as ordered by a patient's attending physician and in accordance with established procedures. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation is administered in emergency situations as necessary. Therapists review physician's orders, analyze patient diagnostic test results, and provide appropriate therapy based on the patient's current clinical condition. If appropriate, they implement approved protocols as directed by the physician. Routine and advanced respiratory therapy is performed, prioritizing patient needs in a rapidly changing environment. Patients are instructed in the use of various respiratory care equipment in a thorough and professional manner. The therapist assesses patient response to therapy and coaches the patient to improve technique. All treatments and therapies given are documented, along with any supplies used. Corresponding charges are accurately filed, and outcomes of therapeutic interventions are reported with recommendations made as appropriate. Therapists adhere to established policies, including infection control, isolation policies, HIPAA, time and attendance, and social media guidelines. They work willingly and professionally with other employees, healthcare professionals, and students. Responsibility and initiative are taken to understand and complete any professional or technical requirements set by leadership. Principles of continuous quality improvement are incorporated in all aspects of clinical care, identifying opportunities as appropriate. General understanding of respiratory care modalities, therapies, equipment, and medications is essential. The ability to read, write, and follow flow chart protocols is required. Therapists must be able to work under stressful conditions and possess critical thinking and problem-solving skills. General computer skills are necessary, including typing, information security, electronic medical documentation, handheld scanning, and email.
