Job Title: Licensed Respiratory Therapist Profession: Clinical Professional Specialty: Respiratory Care Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 7p - 7a with every other weekend rotation Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Zero to six months License: Valid Provisional Respiratory Care Practitioner License or Temporary letter to practice issued by the Medical Board Certifications: Certified Respiratory Therapist or Registered Respiratory Therapist credential through the National Board of Respiratory Care. Basic Life Support certification from AHA within 2 months of hire. Must-Have: 1 year of experience; BLS certification through AHA; Critical Care; Experience working with General Pediatric Patients. Description: The Licensed Respiratory Therapist assesses, implements, and evaluates the delivery of respiratory care services. Processes are utilized in accordance with hospital standards and department policies for the purpose of monitoring and evaluating patient status. The therapist assesses and delivers care interventions to patients in non-critical care areas while considering patient age, cultural, and psychosocial factors. They perform computer entry, verify physician orders, and document pertinent clinical information. Accurate documentation in the medical record according to policy is required. The therapist provides effective care to patients in critical care areas. They administer mechanical ventilation, both invasive and non-invasive, while monitoring and measuring patient parameters. The therapist attends to ventilator maintenance and setting changes while monitoring patient response to those changes. They communicate effectively with the healthcare team and demonstrate professional judgment in response to changing patient or departmental situations. As indicated, the therapist delegates and supervises tasks to appropriate staff members. Respect for patients' rights is a fundamental requirement. The therapist establishes effective relationships with patients, their families, and medical staff by utilizing positive customer service skills. Consistent communication updates with the department are maintained. The therapist supports departmental and hospital goals by attending in-services, meeting department education standards, and completing variance reports. They organize, prioritize, and perform skills appropriate for the patient population while anticipating patient and departmental needs. Other duties as assigned may be performed. The therapist responds to code blues, RIT/CRIT calls, and transports in a timely manner. Participation in mentoring new personnel is expected. The therapist assists in monitoring the quality and appropriateness of patient care. They actively participate in projects and processes designed to improve patient outcomes. Independent judgment in planning the sequence of operations and making minor decisions in a complex technical or professional field is required. The therapist coordinates activities of others without direct supervision. They lead others in the same work performed without supervisory authority. The therapist works directly with patients and/or customers and interacts with internal and external customers. They collaborate with other healthcare professionals and staff.
