The RT II is responsible for delivering patient care in complex, multiple problem-patient care situations. The majority of time is spent in critical care areas with protocol ventilator management, which requires significant independent decision-making and self-direction. In addition to patient care delivery, the RT II is responsible for patient, family, and support system education, coordination of activities, staff development, and professional and self-developmental activities. The RT II is responsible for providing patient care with an understanding and awareness of population-specific needs. The RT II addresses the biological, emotional, developmental, psychosocial, and patient/family education needs when providing care. They also participate in the education of new employees and others. Core responsibilities include: Providing customer service through completion of patient care, documentation, and education. Promoting a team spirit and positive work environment. Providing a supportive environment for students and staff. Administering quality patient care through patient assessment and therapy assessment. Collaborating with healthcare team members in planning patient care. Verifying orders and administering aerosolized medication, bronchial hygiene, volume expansion, oxygen, and medical gas therapy. Performing ventilator management, weaning, waveform graphic interpretation, airway management, intubation, extubation, trach tube change, and care. Performing arterial blood gas sampling and analysis. Educating patients and mentoring or precepting new employees, students, and peers. Assisting in invasive and non-invasive procedures, cardiac service procedures, and pulmonary diagnostic testing. Promoting a safe and quality environment by ensuring accurate electronic orders, charting, and charging. Promoting high levels of patient safety including medication safety and other national patient safety goals. Promoting performance improvement initiatives designed to promote quality care and evidence-based practice. Reviewing revised and new policies and procedures. Performing other duties as assigned. Compliance with all applicable policies, standards of work, and code of conduct is required.
