We’re hiring an experienced Respiratory Therapist for a local hospital in Atlanta, GA where you will be responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the treatment, care, and needs of patients with breathing disorders.


Minimum Requirements:

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree from a Respiratory Therapy or Cardiopulmonary Science program.
  • Current Georgia state respiratory therapist license in good standing.
  • Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) credential required.
  • Minimum one year of experience as an RRT in an acute care hospital setting.
  • BLS certification required.
  • Experience with mechanical ventilators, non-invasive ventilation, and invasive ventilation management.
  • Competence with arterial blood gas collection and interpretation, oximetry, and capnography monitoring.
  • Experience performing suctioning, tracheostomy care, endotracheal tube management, and emergency airway procedures (including use of video laryngoscope).
  • Ability to perform 12-lead ECG and basic arrhythmia recognition.
  • Familiarity with pulmonary function testing (NIF, VC) and chest physiotherapy techniques.
  • Ability to document treatments, patient responses, and maintain therapy charge accuracy in the electronic medical record.
  • Preferred: ACLS certification and prior experience assisting with bronchoscopy, chest tube management, and working in moderate complexity laboratory environments.

Standard Job Description:

Respiratory Therapist provides quality patient care, delivering intensive respiratory care and patient transport into and out of the facility as medically prescribed, within the scope of professional license and with minimal supervision. Evaluates patients and recommends treatment plans. Explains purpose and procedure of treatments, tests, and equipment to patients and provides necessary education upon discharge.

Conducts physician-prescribed treatments, operating ventilatory equipment (invasive and non-invasive), oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizers to administer medications, humidification, ventilation, and oxygenation. Performs chest physiotherapy to promote secretion clearance. Performs suctioning via oropharyngeal, nasal, and tracheal methods. Performs oximetry and capnography monitoring according to policy. Reviews chest x-rays to determine need for further evaluation. Performs 12-lead EKG and basic arrhythmia recognition. Performs pulmonary function studies (NIF, VC) per policy.

Assists with respiratory-related procedures (bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, chest tube placement). Performs PleurX or similar drainage when applicable. Performs tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes. Performs arterial puncture and evaluates ventilation efficiency, including monitoring, recording and reporting results. For hospitals with moderate complexity labs, follows policies related to specimen handling, equipment use, documentation and quality control across testing phases.

Performs cardiopulmonary resuscitation according to BLS and ACLS guidelines. Performs insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes using free-hand or video laryngoscope techniques. Sets up and self-tests ventilatory equipment and operates, maintains and monitors mechanical ventilation across device types. Assists with preventative maintenance and repair of equipment. Records treatment information and patient responses on respiratory care records and patient charts. Communicates with attending and pulmonary physicians regarding therapy efficiency. Reports necessary information during shift-to-shift handoffs. Maintains accurate respiratory therapy charging, including data entry and error correction. Performs other duties as assigned.
