Job Summary:
Progressive Care Unit Nurse (PCU) position located in Louisville, Kentucky. This role involves working in a high-acuity, comprehensive stroke unit with a focus on teamwork, compassion, and patient-centered care. The nurse will be part of a supportive environment that encourages professional growth and excellence in clinical practice.
Job Details:
- Shift: Nights, 12-hour shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week, starting on 08/17/2026
- Required Qualifications: 2 years of experience in a related setting, valid NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification, Basic Life Support (BLS) certification, and eligible for licensure in Kentucky
- Preferred Qualifications: 3 or more years of experience, additional certifications or skills in neuro assessment, phlebotomy, EKG rhythm analysis, and advanced cardiac monitoring
- Unit Information: 16-bed mixed acuity unit with a focus on stroke, neuro, ICH, neurosurgery overflow, post TPA, and post thrombectomy care
- Patient Types and Diagnoses: Stroke, neuro, ICH, neurosurgery overflow, 24-hour post TPA, thrombectomy post 24-hour, with NIH Q4h monitoring
- Patient Ratios: RN: 1:4-6 acuity-based staff, CNAs: 2 per shift, and 1 clerical staff during the day
- Support within the Department: CNA, receptionists, charge nurse, vascular access team, resource teams for sepsis and rapid response, shift coordinator during the day, RT, hospitalist, specialists, intensivist, remote telemetry monitoring
- Technology and Equipment: Cerner EMR, Plum ICU Medical IV pump, Phillips monitors, sera steady, Arjo lifts, kangaroo pump, sapphire pump for PCA, and unit-specific equipment
- Floating: Float to mixed acuity units only
- Orientation: 24 hours (3 days) with 1 end-of-week and 1 start-of-week 12-hour shift
- Additional Notes: Scrub color is galaxy blue; free onsite parking with badge access; unit culture emphasizes teamwork, professionalism, resilience, and patient-centered care
