Position Overview
As a PICU RN, you will provide specialized, family-centered care to critically ill infants, children, and adolescents. Working alongside an interdisciplinary healthcare team, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while maintaining the highest standards of clinical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to pediatric critical care patients
- Care for pre-operative and immediate post-operative surgical patients
- Manage pediatric trauma patients and complex critical care cases
- Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, and multidisciplinary teams
- Monitor patient conditions and respond effectively to changes in clinical status
- Educate and support patients and families throughout treatment and recovery
- Perform independent nursing functions and delegated medical functions within scope of practice
- Maintain accurate and timely documentation in Epic
Qualifications
Required Education
- Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
Required Licensure & Certifications
- Active Minnesota RN License
- BLS Certification
- PALS Certification
Required Experience
Candidates must meet one of the following experience requirements:
PICU Experience
- Minimum 2 years of PICU nursing experience, including:
- Pre-operative pediatric surgical patients
- Immediate post-operative PICU patients
- Pediatric trauma patients
OR
Pediatric CVICU Experience
- Minimum 2 years of Pediatric CVICU experience with demonstrated competency caring for:
- Pre-operative cardiac surgery patients
- Immediate post-operative cardiac surgery patients
- Pre- and post-cardiac procedural patients
Patient Ratios
- Typical nurse-to-patient ratio: 1:1 to 1:2
Floating Requirements
This position supports pediatric critical care services across Minneapolis and St. Paul locations. Nurses may float between facilities based on patient care needs; however, every effort is made to keep clinicians at one location during their scheduled shift whenever possible.

The Pediatric ICU/CCU RN is a member of the Critical Care Department and manages patients with multi- system failure and a variety of life-threatening illnesses. The Pediatric ICU/CCU nurse assumes responsibility and accountability for assigned patients and is responsible to the Clinical Manager or client facility designee.
Minimum Requirements:
- Current RN license in good standing in state of practice
- One year recent experience in ICU, CCU, PICU, NICU or emergency medicine required
- Successful completion of Amergis Staffing Solutions testing process
- Prefers evidence of ACLS, PALS, NRP certification
- Shows evidence of CEU requirements for the state of practice
- Demonstrates the ability to assume a leadership role in a crisis situation
- Demonstrates clinical competence specific to intensive care
- Demonstrates the ability to work with patient growth and development needs across the specific unit of assignment
- Demonstrates ability to work in a team environment
- Demonstrates a full range of body motion in a regular performance of duties on a daily basis
- Must be able to work with frequent interruptions
- 1-3 years complex job related experience
- PALS, BLS, and ACLS, as required.
- Must be at least 18 years of age
