Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a PICU/ECMO position at an academic medical center requiring Epic and ECMO pump experience along with an active MI RN license.

Details

  • Work in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of a large-volume pediatric and adult ECMO program
  • Focus on pediatric ECMO patients who are stable on ECMO, including congenital heart disease, congenital diaphragmatic hernias, and respiratory failure cases
  • Rotating day (3x12, 7:00-19:00) and night (3x12, 19:00-7:00) shifts
  • Patient ratios of 1:1, occasionally 1:2 for pediatric circuits, and 1:3 in adults using a remote monitoring and rounding care model
  • Required to work 2 weekends per 4-week scheduling period
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • No floating required
  • Epic EMR experience required

Requirements

  • Active MI RN license required in-hand at time of submission (compact license not accepted)
  • Current BLS certification and RRT required
  • Minimum 1-2 years of RN experience required
  • ECMO pump experience required
  • Prior ECMO specialist experience at an urban/academic medical center required for first-time travelers
  • Epic charting system experience required
  • Skills in IV therapy and blood product administration required
  • Experience with care of patients on ECMO and nurse-driven ECMO protocols
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, CVP monitoring, and post cardiac surgery care preferred
  • Teaching hospital experience preferred
  • Two professional references required from a manager or supervisor (charge RNs not accepted)
  • Flu vaccination required with no exemptions

Additional Information

  • Provide direct care to pediatric ECMO patients including monitoring, assessment, and management of complex cardiovascular and respiratory conditions
  • Work within an academic medical center environment supporting a high-volume ECMO program
  • Required certifications must be obtained prior to start date
  • No RTO permitted during the first week of contract
  • Locally residing candidates accepted at the same pay rate
  • Former perm staff may return as travelers after a 1-year separation
  • Candidates cannot apply if previously employed by the facility within the last 12 months
  • Traveler pairs are not accepted
  • First-time travelers accepted only with prior ECMO specialist experience at an urban or academic medical center
