The Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) works under the supervision of a licensed Physical Therapist (PT) to provide rehabilitative care to patients. The PTA helps patients recover from injuries, improve mobility, manage pain, and regain functional independence through structured therapy programs.
Key Responsibilities- Implement treatment plans designed by the Physical Therapist
- Assist patients with therapeutic exercises, stretching, and mobility training
- Use modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and heat/cold therapy
- Monitor patient progress and report changes to the supervising PT
- Document treatments, patient responses, and progress accurately and timely
- Educate patients and caregivers on home exercise programs and safety techniques
- Maintain therapy equipment and ensure a safe treatment environment
- Assist in patient transfers, gait training, and use of assistive devices
- Collaborate with healthcare team members to ensure coordinated care
