Physical Therapist Assistant

Schedule / Job TypeContract | 13 Weeks | Days | Outpatient | Onsite | Monday–Friday with varying hours
Key Responsibilities- Implement treatment goals, plans, and programs as established by the supervising Physical Therapist, including posture training, strengthening exercise, balance, coordination, endurance, joint mobility, pain relief, and functional skills training.
- Train patients in locomotion using orthotics, prosthetics, and assistive devices such as canes, crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs; demonstrate proper guarding techniques and safety awareness.
- Apply and demonstrate therapeutic modalities including ultrasound, hot/cold packs, whirlpools, paraffin bath, iontophoresis, fluidotherapy, and TENS units.
- Monitor patient response to treatment, document progress, and record patient and family education and participation.
- Maintain a safe, clean treatment environment; follow infection control protocols and safe patient handling practices.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary healthcare team members, participate in team conferences, and serve as a resource regarding therapy goals and interventions.
Required Qualifications- Active Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license or eligibility to practice in Virginia.
- Experience working in an outpatient physical therapy setting.
- Proficiency in applying therapeutic exercise and modalities under Physical Therapist supervision.
- Knowledge of safe patient handling techniques and infection control standards.
- Strong documentation skills for tracking patient progress and treatment response.
Preferred Experience / Skills- Experience with community re-entry training and adaptive equipment instruction.
- Familiarity with assistive and adaptive devices including wheelchairs and custom cushioning systems.
- Demonstrated ability to educate patients and families on body mechanics and home exercise programs.
