Key Responsibilities
  • Implement treatment goals, plans, and programs as established by the supervising Physical Therapist, including posture training, strengthening exercises, balance and coordination exercises, joint mobility, and functional skills training.
  • Train patients in locomotion using orthotics, prosthetics, and assistive devices such as canes, crutches, walkers, and wheelchairs; demonstrate proper guarding techniques and safety awareness.
  • Administer therapeutic modalities including ultrasound, hot/cold packs, whirlpools, paraffin bath, iontophoresis, fluidotherapy, and TENS units.
  • Monitor patient responses to treatment and intervene as necessary; document patient progress, response to treatment, and patient/family education.
  • Maintain a safe and clean treatment environment; follow all infection control, safety, and equipment handling protocols.
  • Participate in team conferences and collaborate with other healthcare disciplines regarding therapy administered and projected treatment goals.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Physical Therapist Assistant (PTA) license or eligibility to practice in Virginia.
  • Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant.
  • Experience in an outpatient physical therapy setting.
  • Knowledge of safe patient handling practices and infection control procedures.
  • Strong documentation skills and ability to maintain accurate patient records.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with a broad range of therapeutic modalities including aquatic therapy and iontophoresis.
  • Demonstrated ability to instruct patients and families in home exercise programs and proper body mechanics.
  • Experience participating in quality improvement initiatives or special projects within a clinical setting.
