Minimum Qualifications
- Graduation from a Physical Therapist Assistant program accredited by the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) or equivalent.
- Active Physical Therapy Assistant license for Arizona required if the state requires licensure to practice.
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification required.
- Demonstrated clinical competence and experience implementing individualized treatment plans across the adult and/or geriatric patient populations.
- Experience with patient transfers, ambulation training, therapeutic modalities, and documentation in accordance with departmental and regulatory standards.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and perform frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and other physical demands of direct patient care.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills for interaction with interdisciplinary teams, patients, and families.
- Arizona Fingerprint Clearance Card required for employees working in Banner Home Care/Hospice or Boswell Skilled Nursing Facility. (Client-specific requirement.)
- For Banner Registry and Travel positions, a minimum of one year of experience working as a Therapy Assistant is preferred.
- Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

POSITION SUMMARY. This position is responsible for the administration of physical therapy treatment under the supervision of a Physical Therapist, in accordance with physician referral, state and local organizational standards, regulatory agencies, and established departmental policies and procedures. This position demonstrates the clinical competence and knowledge necessary to provide treatment appropriate to the age of the patients served.
CORE FUNCTIONS
- Administer physical therapy treatment according to the plan of care established by the Physical Therapist. Implement individualized treatment plans with consideration to the patient’s physical, social, spiritual, cultural, educational, and age-specific needs.
- Provide skilled treatment in a safe manner. Monitor ongoing effectiveness of treatment and collaborate with the Physical Therapist to modify the plan of care when indicated. Participate in discharge planning and patient/family education.
- Document according to department and regulatory standards within established time frames. Record comprehensive assessments of patient progress and treatment techniques.
- Communicate pertinent patient information and treatment results to physicians, nurses, patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members in a clear and timely manner.
- Demonstrate adaptability in assignments related to caseload, scheduling, and staffing. Assist in other patient care areas as needed.
- Provide appropriate supervision and delegation to therapy technicians and PTA students according to department policies and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in department meetings, process improvement, and meet productivity standards.
- Interact professionally with staff at all levels, physicians, patients, families, and external care providers.
Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, and applicable professional standards.
