Successful completion of new hire competency. Description: This position primarily involves outpatient therapy with some acute care coverage. The Physical Therapist delegates responsibility to Physical Therapist Assistants and Aides. Responsibilities are focused on the patient and include assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation according to established standards, physician orders, and relevant policies. Essential duties include evaluating patient function through formal and informal testing to determine the skeletal, neurological, respiratory, and cardiovascular status. Developing goal-specific treatment regimes based on assessment data and patient tolerance is required. Written treatment plans should be submitted as part of the authorized plan of treatment coordinated with physicians. Updating care plans as needed to reflect changes in patient status is necessary. Co-signing verbal orders for Physical Therapist Assistants as necessary is part of the role. The therapist is responsible for devising and discussing a schedule of treatment that is specific to frequency and duration with the patient, family, and caregivers. Education for patients, families, and caregivers regarding their condition, alternatives, prognosis, and rationale for treatment is required using various methods. Additional responsibilities include supervising Physical Therapist Assistants, Aides, Home Health Aides, and students as per regulatory standards. Recommending adaptive and supportive equipment based on assessments and assisting with equipment acquisition is necessary. Documenting patient and family responses to treatment and changes in condition according to standards is also part of the role. Daily documentation for required procedures in compliance with relevant regulations is needed. Providing treatment interventions to restore optimal functioning specific to patient care is expected. Educating the patient, family, or caregiver through relevant methods is required. Effective communication with all internal and external customers is important for the quality of patient care, including coordination with interdisciplinary team members. Promoting education among staff, students, and other healthcare providers while participating in process improvement initiatives is encouraged. Assisting with program development and participating in team conferences and interdisciplinary meetings may be required. Commitment to customer service, quality of service, and teamwork is essential. Confidentiality of patient and affiliate information must be maintained according to established policies. Additional duties may be assigned as necessary. Candidates must demonstrate competency in Microsoft Windows. Interpersonal skills are needed for effective verbal and written communication in English with individuals and groups. The ability to work independently and demonstrate problem-solving, organizational skills, and time management is crucial.
