Aims to improve and restore function, increase strength, relieve pain, and enhance functional independence. Demonstrates competencies specific to the population served. Interprets and implements referrals. Evaluates patient functional abilities and disabilities through standardized assessment and testing. Establishes functional baselines for treatment progress. Engages in interdisciplinary discussions and rounds. Establishes education and treatment plans. Educates families and communities. Sets patient care goals and estimates treatment lengths. Conducts direct patient care, including individual and group physical therapy activities according to the treatment plan. Facilitates and instructs patients in necessary skills for successful participation. May design and fabricate splints and other assistive devices. Involved in program development and departmental process improvement. Serves as a resource person in areas of expertise. Provides in-services in areas of expertise. May cross-train and provide coverage in other departments as required. Documents evaluations, treatment plans, and progress. Ensures documentation is accurate, legible, and compliant with regulations. Communicates any limitations that prevent timely documentation. Maintains complete records for each patient served.
