Description: The Physical Therapist restores patient function, alleviates pain, and prevents disabilities by planning and administering medically prescribed physical therapy. This role delivers high-quality, patient-centered care to help individuals achieve their optimal level of mobility, independence, and quality of life. Responsibilities include assessing and interpreting evaluation results to develop individualized physical therapy treatment plans in collaboration with physicians or per prescription. Therapeutic interventions involve administering manual exercises, therapeutic activities, and functional training. The Physical Therapist will instruct, encourage, and assist patients with non-manual exercises, ambulatory activities, daily living skills, and the proper use of assistive devices. Hands-on treatments include massage, traction, physical agents, hydrotherapy, moist packs, ultrasound, and other modalities. The role includes directing and supervising treatments performed by physical therapy aides, technicians, and assistants. Progress monitoring involves evaluating treatment effectiveness and the fit/function of prosthetic and orthotic devices. Observing patient progress, documenting outcomes, and recommending modifications to optimize results are essential tasks. Collaboration with physicians, nurses, social workers, and the interdisciplinary team will be necessary for discharge planning and continuity of care. Designing home exercise programs, educating patients and caregivers, recommending assistive equipment, and arranging outpatient or home health follow-up as needed is part of the responsibilities. Maintaining accurate, timely charting in patient and department records supports continuity of care and regulatory compliance. Ensuring a safe, clean clinical environment by following infection control protocols, procedures, and regulations is crucial. Professional development includes staying current with advancements in physical therapy through workshops, publications, and continuing education. Mentoring and developing clinical staff through training and in-service programs is also expected. Contributing to a positive team environment and participating in interdisciplinary patient care conferences is important for team collaboration.
