Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate and process pharmacy prior authorizations independently, taking into consideration pharmacy benefits, medication utilization policies, prescriber-submitted information, and member-specific factors.
  • Maintain pharmacy benefit member eligibility review processes and databases; oversee daily point-of-service claims transactions and refer unusual occurrences as appropriate.
  • Triage and document incoming calls and requests, identifying those requiring immediate clinical attention and routing work to appropriate licensed caregivers based on established protocols.
  • Perform intake and system data entry for authorization and referral requests, member demographics, medication therapy management, and drug utilization management using ICD-10 and CPT-4 coding systems.
  • Act as a departmental liaison and resource for members, network pharmacies, prescribers, and internal health plan departments to problem-solve inquiries and facilitate workflows.
  • Audit processed pharmacy claims, system call documentation, and written correspondence for quality, accuracy, and completeness; report statistical information and contribute to continuous quality improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications
  • Active Oregon Pharmacy Technician License required (may submit with license pending).
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required — candidates without advanced Excel proficiency will not be considered.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a pharmacy technician in a managed care environment, including prior authorization review and mandatory audits across Medicare, Medicaid, Commercial Fully Insured, Individual, and ASO lines of business; OR a Bachelor's Degree.
  • Working knowledge of medical terminology, HCPCS, CPT, and ICD-10 coding applications, pharmacy billing and pricing, and pharmacy service models across various practice settings.
  • Working knowledge of state and federal pharmacy law, health insurance law, and HIPAA, including awareness of fraud, waste, and abuse monitoring.
  • Proficiency with pharmacy and health plan information systems, claims processing systems, and Microsoft Office applications.
Preferred Experience / Skills
  • Experience with EPIC electronic health records system.
  • Familiarity with medical drug benefits, channel management, and health plan pharmacy operations including prior authorization workflows across multiple lines of business.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and database maintenance skills with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
