Job Description: Retail Pharmacy Tech needed for a 40-hour/week assignment in beautiful Salida and Westcliffe, CO. Heart of the Rockies Regional Medical Center is an officially accredited Critical Access Hospital by The Joint Commission. The technician must have experience ensuring that all regulatory requirements of each prescription are met before processing the order.   • Certification with the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) for Colorado is required.
Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesPrescription Order Entry
  • Receive prescriptions from patients and clarify any needed information.
  • Ensure all regulatory requirements are met before processing prescriptions.
  • Prioritize prescriptions based on urgency and importance.
  • Accurately enter prescription information into the pharmacy computer system.
  • Prepare prescription labels accurately and completely.
  • Handle refill requests and prescription clarifications by phone.
  • Notify pharmacists regarding Drug Utilization Review (DUR) messages per policy.
  • Contact insurance companies regarding rejections and prior authorizations.
  • Communicate prescription-related concerns to pharmacists for guidance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation in patient profiles and records.
  • Update medication pricing to ensure accurate reimbursement.
  • Identify under-reimbursed prescriptions and assist with MAC requests.
  • Process new prescriptions, refills, messages, and IVR requests efficiently.
Drug Dispensing
  • Accurately select medications and dispense correct quantities.
  • Follow pharmacy regulations and policies.
  • Perform all aspects of the dispensing process accurately.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of pharmacy calculations and drug information.
  • Properly document dispensing activities.
Inventory
  • Order medications and maintain proper inventory levels.
  • Identify excess stock and assist with returns for credit.
  • Monitor expiration dates and remove outdated medications.
  • Rotate stock and ensure proper medication storage.
  • Place orders with wholesalers and suppliers.
  • Manage returns to wholesalers and reverse distributors.
Clerical Duties
  • Perform assigned clerical responsibilities.
  • Answer phones and greet customers professionally and courteously.
  • Follow up on phone messages, refill requests, and doctor calls.
  • Communicate proactively regarding prescription delays or issues.
  • Ensure prescription pickups are signed for to maintain audit readiness.
  • Process register, cash, and credit card transactions accurately.
  • Enter billing information for workers’ compensation and automobile claims.
  • Assist with controlled substance inventory monitoring and reconciliation.
