Job Title

Registered Nurse – IMC / PCU / Stepdown (Surgical PCU)

Schedule / Job Type

Contract | Nights | 4x12-hour shifts (6:45 PM – 7:15 AM) | Up to 26 weeks available | Must work at least one holiday per 13-week assignment

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct patient care in a surgical PCU that functions as a stepdown from the General Surgical ICU, including bariatric specialty patients and backup support to the trauma unit
  • Manage ventilator care for chronic trach patients (non-ICU level) and provide respiratory support including nasal cannula, oxygen administration, CPAP, and BiPAP
  • Administer IV therapy, blood products, and cardiac drips (no titration); manage central and peripheral line care including PICC lines
  • Perform cardiac monitoring, telemetry interpretation, dysrhythmia management, and participate in Rapid Response and Code team activation
  • Operate and manage unit equipment including ortho equipment, chest tubes, surgical drains, trach, endo tools, and MML
  • Float within skillset as required; maintain isolation precautions across PCU, DOU, IMC, and stepdown settings

Required Qualifications

  • Active Virginia State RN license or active Compact RN license required; pending license accepted only if candidate holds a single-state license from a non-compact state
  • Current ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
  • Ventilator care experience required
  • Proficiency with EPIC electronic health records required
  • Experience with cardiac monitoring, dysrhythmia interpretation, and telemetry in a PCU, DOU, IMC, or stepdown setting
  • Competency in IV drip management including Cardizem, Heparin, Insulin, Amiodarone, Nitro, Lidocaine, Ketamine, and low-dose vasopressors

Preferred Experience / Skills

  • Prior travel nursing experience; first-time travelers are accepted
  • Background in bariatric, trauma, or surgical stepdown nursing
  • Experience with remote telemetry monitoring environments
