Description

American Traveler is hiring a travel RN for a PCU/Clinical Decision Unit position requiring 2+ years of MedSurg, telemetry, and step-down experience, with charge nurse experience preferred and night shift availability.

Details

  • 40-bed Progressive Care/Clinical Decision Unit focused on ED decompression and enhanced patient throughput, not a holding or overflow unit
  • Primary function is receiving admitted patients from the ED, completing Admission Assessments, Medication Reconciliation, and initiating acute care orders
  • Cares for patients with a wide variety of diagnoses requiring a well-rounded clinical background
  • Patient ratios: 1:5 Step-Down or 1:6 MedSurg (1:5 if combined) on both day and night shifts
  • Unit staffing goal includes a free charge nurse and typically 1–2 CNAs based on census
  • Uses Baxter IV pumps and Cerner for documentation
  • Night shift: 6:45 PM – 7:15 AM
  • Every other weekend required; no on-call responsibilities; holiday coverage assistance required
  • Floating to other units within skill set is expected
  • 13-week contract

Requirements

  • Active NC or Compact RN license required
  • Required certifications: BLS, ACLS, and NIHSS
  • Minimum 2 years of recent MedSurg, telemetry (remote), and Step-Down/PCU experience preferred
  • Charge nurse experience is preferred, or willingness to take on the charge role
  • SSN and DOB required for consideration
  • One professional reference required (two references required for candidates from Florida or Missouri)
  • No gaps in work history of 90 days or more within the past 12 months
  • Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility; local candidates are not eligible

Additional Information

  • Charge nurse responsibilities are part of this role; candidates with charge experience or openness to the role are strongly encouraged to apply
  • Additional float opportunities may be available in the CMU Telemetry Unit (centrally located telemetry monitoring nurses) and as ED Transport Nurses for higher-acuity patient transfers
  • Travel nurses frequently request extensions, with some having remained on assignment for several years
  • Scrub color requirement: navy blue, white, or a combination of the two; no t-shirts; appropriate navy or white jacket/sweater permitted
  • Certifications should not expire within the first 30 days of the assignment start date
  • First-time travelers are not mentioned as eligible; 2+ years of specialty experience is expected
